1. On this holiday, people go out of their way to show their creativity either through a love letter, poem or handmade Valentine. The best Valentines are from your kids, which you can cherish forever.

2. It’s a great excuse to have a fancy meal and indulge in some oysters as an aphrodisiac. Or if you are nostalgic, you can share one milkshake with two straws and indulge in your inner Archie & Veronica (or Betty if you prefer).

3. Those giant red heart shaped candy boxes are one of the best holiday inventions ever. There are no calories in Valentine’s Day chocolate, right?

4. It’s a holiday celebrated the world over and love is the universal language. It’s so interesting to see how people cherish their loved ones on this day whether it’s “Valentine’s Day” in the United States, “Lovers’ Festival” in China, “Friend’s Day” in Finland, or “Día del Amor y la Amistad” in Latin America.

5. For a memorable marriage proposal, ask on Valentine’s Day with a flash mob. It’s a great way to show your object of affection the lengths to which you will go. But before you start choreographing, make sure she’s leaning toward yes. Otherwise, the day may be memorable for the wrong reasons!

6. Make a getaway. Take your loved one to a spa, a bed and breakfast, or a weekend in Vegas. Get dressed up, go ahead and order dessert with your meal, and upgrade that flight. Make the weekend all about indulging each other and you will be rewarded for weeks to come.

7. If you’re on your own, stay in and have a rom-com marathon with the girls. Valentine’s Day is a great reason to indulge your inner romantic vicariously through Kate Hudson or Julia Roberts. Go ahead and watch Pretty Woman or Dirty Dancing for the 20th time. No one’s judging.

8. Who doesn’t love a Valentine’s Day card? From the time you were a kid, it was fun to cut paper hearts, decorate your Valentine’s Day shoe boxes, and open up pun-tastic cards from classic poets like Garfield, Hello Kitty, and Superman.

9. There’s just something about the heart shape that makes Valentine’s Day so festive. Pink and red, little cherubs, roses, and love songs also add to the excitement. Don’t be afraid to dress head-to-toe in red or wear your kitschiest sweater covered in hearts.

10. Valentine’s Day is the perfect occasion to tell that person you’ve been crushing on that you are over the moon about them. Do it with fresh flowers, assorted chocolates, or a simple confession of your feelings.
